We know that Baptism can be an important step for many parents who want to raise their children with faith, so we want to share some of what Baptism means at WRCC and the normal process for baptism here.

First, it's important to know that Baptism is a Sacrament, not just a ceremony. A Sacrament is a sacred ceremony which Jesus himself commanded us to observe, and in which he promised to be present. This means that Baptism is a "means of grace," something Jesus uses to grow our faith in him. At WRCC we celebrate two sacraments (like all Protestant, Reformed or Evangelical churches): Baptism and Communion.

The Sacrament of Baptism:

Baptism is unique in that it is the sacrament of entrance into the church. In other words, Baptism is the way that we celebrate a person becoming a part of the church of Jesus. We do not believe that Baptism saves or regenerates us, but that it is an important step in joining the community of people who follow Jesus. For this reason, we typically Baptize people who come to faith in Christ for the first time who have never been Baptized, and the children of people who are members or actively involved at WRCC.

At the same time, it's also important to know that we love kids at WRCC, and love the opportunity to help kids learn about the love of God and grow their own faith in him. So if you're not currently part of a church and are interested in Baptism, here's what we recommend:

  • First, come and worship with us! Come join us on a Sunday for our 10:00 a.m. worship service. This is when all of our Sunday kids' activities take place and where you can relax and feel at home (even with noisy kids!). Baptism is all about being part of the church, so before we ask you to commit to that, we want to make sure this is a place you can feel at home and grow together as a family.
  • Next, schedule a meeting with Pastor Susan. She would love the chance to talk with you together through baptism and what it means at WRCC. More importantly, she'd love the chance to talk with you about being a part of WRCC and how this community of people following Christ can be a great blessing in your life.

We believe that baptism is a beautiful and powerful sacrament as it brings children into the church of Jesus Christ to hear his word and grow in faith among his people. So we hope that you'll join us to experience God's love in action!
